The Truth About Marilyn

“I knew I belonged to the public and to the world, not because I was talented or even beautiful, but because I had never belonged to anything or anyone else."

Marilyn Monroe.

Marilyn Monroe was doubtlessly one of the most loved famous people of all time. Men wanted to be with her, women wanted to be her. The queen of pin-ups never stopped astonishing us. Even 50 years after her mysterious death, people still talk about her dramatic life, her imperfect but impressive beauty, her attitude that could break every single heart... She was an inspiration to many, in fact she still is. Famous and less famous women around the globe, such as Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Nicole Kidman and many, many more, are still trying to impersonate her, to act like her, to look like her. But we had only one Marilyn.

"What makes Norma Jean, a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe, so special?" someone might say.

* First of all, she had a really difficult childhood, she was sexually abused, without an actual home and family to support her. Her father left her when she was a baby and never in his life accepted her, and her mother suffered a massive mental breakdown. She got married at only 16. It is pretty impressive how she rised above all that!

* At a time when photos exposing the female body were rarely available she was an exciting
newcomer to the scene. She was on the cover of the very first Playboy in 1953. No other actress has ever been able to be so incredibly sexy on the photos while also retaining an innocence and vulnerability.
Marilyn had a sensual, sexual attraction for both men and women and generated envy in the rest of the female population.
She revolutionized the way sex was viewed- in the uptight 1950's sex was viewed as something dirty and shameful, Marilyn made it fun and funny, she could be sexy while still being proper enough to bring home to mother and it altered society in such a way to make the sexual revolution of the 1960's possible.

*Apart from being a great actress, Marilyn was well read and highly intelligent. Her favorite authors included Dostoevsky, Proust,Freud, and Whitman.

Marilyn was sweet, kind and perhaps naive, care-free and almost child-like. She loved kids and animals.
She was rich, but she cared nothing for money and lived very modestly.
Her combination of beauty, intelligence, sexiness, and vulnerability continues to inspire legions of fans to this day, nearly 50 years after she died.
This is why she continues to appeal to men while not being threatening to women. In fact, men find her attractive and often feel protective of her, women have empathy for her, relate to her, and also feel protective of her. Girls identify so well with her because she was very open about her nervousness and insecurities, and they feel that if the most glamorous woman in the world can be self conscious then it's okay that they are too.

"It was a blonde. A blonde to make a bishop kick a hole in a stained glass window ..."
